ARC TRAINING CENTRE FOR
Welcome to the website of the Australian Research Council (ARC) Training Centre Current and Emergent Quantum Technologies. We must have an acronym; ours is QuTech.
Our Mission
ARC Training Centres focus on training Masters and Ph.D. students. QuTech’s mission is the education and training of these students in quantum technologies.
Our Vision
To co-locate students with different backgrounds so they can share varied experiences and knowledge base. We add seminars on entrepreneurship, management, and the workplace experience; along with technical seminars.
Our Centre is called Current and Emergent Quantum Technologies. We interrupt Quantum Technologies broadly in two ways:
First, the “Current and Emerging in our name. “Current” refers to late 20th century quantum technologies where quantum coherence is not a major component, while device size, materials, and carrier confinement are in the quantum domain. Many technology companies, and R&D programs are currently focused in this area, and the impact in the technology landscape is massive, from solar energy, the internet, communications, and computation. “Emerging” refers to 21 century quantum technologies where quantum coherence is a critical component. These longer time-horizon R&D efforts are creating an exciting new technological landscape.
Second, we embrace a broad view of quantum technologies R&D encompassing Engineering, Physics, Biology, Medical Physics and Engineering, and Chemistry.
QuTech is a collaboration between three universities and six world-wide partners. Student projects are developed in collaboration between universities and partners and include work at partner sites.
